Paperzone!
April 23, 2009
Caitlin and I made a trip to Paperzone looking for paper for our résumés. I picked out probably ten different shades of white, from solar white to diamond white, along with a few sheets of this really neat translucent paper, just for fun. We, of course, found plenty of other interesting things along the way, most of which were magnetic. I guess that’s what we were attracted to… haha! Bad pun… Anyway, Caitlin came up with a pretty great setup for her magnetic friends, check it out! My purchase was slightly less exciting but hey, it works for my purpose. It even came with these mini super-strength magnets!

How to Create a Killer Portfolio
April 10, 2009
On Wednesday, Caitlin and I went to the ‘how to create a killer portfolio event’ at Office pdx. It wasn’t at all what I expected, but in a good way. It was a small space filled with business and office supplies, as well as portfolio materials, with 40-some chairs squeezed in for the event. The speakers were Brian Rupp, creative director at Rumblefish and Mike Klein, design director at Adidas originals in Portland. They both had a lot of really good information to share with us, including what they look for in a portfolio, do’s and don’ts, work environments, and character issues. It’s amazing how much I learned in an hour. I was a little disappointed there wasn’t an example of a really great portfolio but they did mention the name of one particularly impressive: Jared Milam. I agree, he’s got some nice work and displays it clean and simple on his portfolio site. Overall it was a very interesting night; I’d like to go again, plus they offer 20% off portfolios on event nights.
We got a business card too! I like the memo on the back; creative idea and appropriate for the business.
